PTP Assignment #1

For my first personal technology project I chose to explore PInterest. I kept hearing about this site and how so many women were "addicted". I didn't want to get involved in something I was just fine without. But I am so glad I was able to learn more about this technology. It is extremely useful especially for a FACS teacher.
1. I learned that some people go crazy with things they pin. They pin everything they think is cute and it's really great that you can not follow certain people or even certain boards. I love that you can view what your friends are pinning on one page and then what people all over the Pinterest network are looking at. Different recipes and pictures get passed around for a couple days so after a while you start seeing the same things.
2. I wish that I could set my boards to private. Anyone can follow me and my boards. I don't like that someone could just watch me pin everything I like. I think there should be an option, such as on facebook, to deny people following you. It would be nice to create different accounts for my personal tastes and my teaching. If I wanted my students to follow the things I was finding and share different interior pictures or recipes and sewing tips, it would be nice for them to only see those things on a professional level. I have already made some boards for collecting ideas for future teaching lessons as well as pictures and tutorials to use in slides.
3. I would use this technology for finding pictures as I mentioned before for slide uses. I found some great pictures of interior design and they would be great to use in lessons. I also came across fun sewing projects to do and some simple sewing tutorials my students could be directed to. It would be great to have them start to follow other people who are interested in sewing or foods as well. One student could find a recipe they liked, try it and then report on it.

  1. I'm glad you opened up to Pinterest. It will be so helpful for teaching, and to follow other teachers and see what they've pinned.

  2. I did the same thing, my roommate kept telling me all about pinterest and I thought she was just being nerdy. Anyways, with the privacy I wonder if it would lose some of the appeal of sharing ideas if people became private, I feel it might slow the sharing, it's value (to me at least) is the idea of free flowingness.

  3. ha ha ha I just have to laugh cuz it was almost a year ago I discovered and became addicted to pinterest. It was strange to me to think other people never had been exposed to it. I like the idea of using the pins for class assignments. Something they love can be useful.
